"Wrong" - new song

"Wrong" will be Depeche Mode's first single from their upcoming 12th studio album and the 46th UK single overall, released by the end of March 2009. A music video for the song was shot by Patrick Daughters in December 2008.

L.A. Times: Depeche Mode finishes new album, reveals new songs

“We’ve completed the record,” the band’s frontman, Dave Gahan, told Pop & Hiss on Thursday via phone from New York. “There might be a couple of bits and pieces we’ve got to clean up, but I feel really good about the fact that we’re finished,” he continued. “I think we’ve made a great record.”

Bong 40 - “Wrong” (release date tbc)

The title of the Depeche Mode’s first “Single Of The Universe” leaked onto the internets today. While it’s been speculated since it’s inclusion at the October 6th press conference, it’s now not-yet-at-all-official that “Wrong” will be the lead single from the band’s yet-to-be-publicly-named album. While a release date has yet to be confirmed, it’s likely to be late March/early April, with a radio date some time in February.

Depeche add Pinkpop to tour

Pinkpop has been added to the band’s itinerary, with a stop on Sunday, May 31st at the festival site in Landgraaf, Holland. Depeche Mode are headlining the festival, and also on the bill is Placebo! Good line up there! Tickets go on sale March 7th, 2009.

Last stop on the Euro Summer tour confirmed!

Following the announcement earlier today of Valladolid on July 8th, we’re happy to let everyone know that the final show of the European Summer leg of Tour Of The Universe will take place at Estadio de la Cartuja in Sevilla, Spain on July 12th. The promoter, Riff Music, is sending out the press release at 6pm local time. Fully updated tour plan after the jump!

The first session began May 5th in Santa Barbara and ended on May 30th.
Second session began in New York on July 8th and ended August 1st.
Third session began in New York on September 9th and ended on October 2nd.
Fourth session began in California on October 21st and ended on November 13th.
Fifth and final session begain in New York on November 18.

While the band has been recording in New York, additional work has been ongoing in other studios in New York and Vienna.

Before Depeche Mode began recording their new album, the group’s guitarist and chief songwriter, Martin Gore, went out and bought a bunch of vintage gear. “It’s helped to shape the sound of the album,” says Gore. “The sounds we are making are more akin to stuff we did in the late 1980s, around Violator. That was a real creative high for us.” The group has been recording off and on for nine months in New York and in a studio near Gore’s Santa Barbara, California, home. On its last release, 2005’s Playing the Angel, singer Dave Gahan contributed songs for the first time in Depeche Mode’s 25-year career. So far, he’s given four new songs to this currently untitled set. “I think it’s natural,” says Gore — who was the group’s sole songwriter for most of its career. Gore says it’s too early to discuss specific tracks, but he says the album has a strong “spiritual feel.”

The depeche-mode.com website has made a round up of all the Depeche Mode news bits they could lay their hands on and things look bright for the 'black swarm' herd. The band will hit the studio in March to work on a few pre-produced songs that songwriter Martin Gore has been working on together with Sie Medway-Smith (Erasure, Client, Depeche Mode ...) in Gore's home studio in Santa Barbara (USA). Add to that a possible inclusion of some Dave Gahan material.
